Substance Misuse
It is illegal to possess, supply, use, trade, distribute or sell controlled drugs and psychoactive substances. It is also illegal to supply anyone under the age of 18 with alcohol. As a University, we aim to balance respect for the privacy and freedom of individual students with the imperatives of compliance with the law and maintenance of a safe, productive and legal environment in the best interests of our community. More information about our approach to substance misuse can be found within our Misuse of Substances Statement.
Substance misuse, also known as drug abuse, is a patterned use of drugs in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful. This includes illegal drugs and legal drugs, such as painkillers.
If you are struggling with substance abuse, or you know someone who is, please know that you are not alone and there is no reason to feel shame. You are entitled to treatment in the same way as anyone else who has a health problem.
